@Aleums omg really?! Sometimes people on here give me shit about my musical tastes and act like I'm uncool but I find this music beautiful.

@ElfLord what did you think of the weeknd album from this year? It sounds a lot like future nostalgia to me, lots of synths and driving tunes.

@Aleums omg I loved it, it's so 80s but like, what 80s music could have been with different technology from the future. I never put it together before but After Dark does sound a lot like Future Nostalgia. I guess I love my synths. Also, I notice a lot of the top 50 on spotify global have this City Pop sound, which came from Japan in the 80s, I think? It's really in right now. It sounds kind of like 70s disco mixed with 80s synth sounds.

@ElfLord interesting! People have been mining that sound for a while for internet electronic music (future funk, they call it) but I guess it's breaking into the mainstream now.
I liked After Dark a lot more than I expected, I'm not really a weeknd fan but that record is just really solid pop music, and I too love my synths

@Aleums I will definitely look up future funk now. Thanks for the idea!

@ElfLord I can't help but notice a distinct lack of carly rae jepsen on your list.... do you care to explain yourself

@Aleums lmao I've never listened to her music before. I'll add it to my queue too. haha

@ElfLord @Aleums

her last couple albums have been very 80s and 70s respectively. definitely give a quick listen to Emotion Side B. it's short and snappy and really made me fall in love with her :)

@Aleums

definitely going to give this a second listen. you've sold it really well for me

@ElfLord @Aleums

can't imagine why someone would give shit. this is a solid list. probably reverse order from my preferences (minus glee). but like, very solid list

@baronnarcveldt @Aleums Thank you so much I really appreciate it! Oh someone once said this music is all terrible when I posted something about liking certain pop music. I forget which. I mean, it's one thing to be like, that's not my thing, that's not the music that gives me the beauty feeling. But it's another to say my musical taste is terrible! Come on!

@ElfLord @Aleums

the way i see it, popular music is popular for a reason. and having a refined taste usually doesn't mean you stop liking the easy stuff. that just makes them a music taste elitist lol

@ElfLord the first three on your list are basically flawless albums as far as I'm concerned

@Aleums Wow you've heard Good Kid m.a.a.d. city? That's impressive. I thought I was the only one who loved that album or had even heard of it. I like it because it tells a fascinating story of a life I have never known because I'm privileged. Growing up in Compton, man, I can't even imagine what that's like.

@ElfLord haha, GKMC is often considered one of the best rap albums of all time by people who are into the genre! it's really something special. the storytelling on it is so engaging, it's emotionally charged and really exciting, and there are a lot of catchy pop moments on it too.

@ElfLord If you're looking for something similar, I'd recommend checking out Pinata by Freddie Gibbs and Madlib. Freddie has this great deep voice and is an excellent storyteller, and madlib is a brilliant beatmaker. they go together perfectly. Here's a sample: youtube.com/watch?v=_hVZZZQAqn

@Aleums I will listen to these recommendations you gave me and add them to my spotify queue. I love this shit.
